The Problem

Lonely Planet wants to build a digital product to inspire young travelers who feel isolated, bored, and overworked.

The Brief

Lonely Planet is a website designed to inspire and inform aspiring travelers. Their goal is to build a kinder, more inclusive, and open-minded world. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Lonely Planet noticed decreased interaction among young travelers. Despite the strength of their brand with young travelers. Lonely Planet's business has shrunk significantly.

The Solution

Our goal was to design a companion app that would allow users to find information and inspiration to travel again. The app aims to inspire and inform users to travel through visual content.

Key Findings

No Money, More Problems

Many users find it difficult to travel due to a lack of funds. They feel like they have a hard time budgeting for trips.

Visual Content

Many users find travel inspiration through different forms of social media that have a steady flow of visual content. Instagram was the most used platform for travel inspiration with Youtube and blogs following close behind.

Don't Have the Time

Users find it difficult to travel due to a lack of time. They struggle to plan a trip around a hectic work schedule and busy social life.

Design Process

For the design of the app, we came together as a group and performed a 1-hour design studio to quickly generate ideas that we would want to include in the design. After our design studio, we took some time on our own and sketched some low-fidelity wireframes. We then came back together as a group and discussed what we liked from each other sketches and decided what we wanted to incorporate into the app. This led to the designs you see here.
